Mission Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Acuña Treasure Legend

Lost Treasure TX • Bexar County County
Description
Mission Concepción legend of unrecovered colonial silver hidden in the stone church completed in 1755 — the oldest unrestored church in the United States.
Historical Notes
La Purísima Concepción de Acuña was relocated from East Texas to San Antonio in 1731. Its stone church was completed in 1755 and survives largely unaltered. The 1835 Battle of Concepción damaged some outbuildings. Merged with San José in 1815, Concepción was a mature mission town with irrigated fields along the acequia system. Folklore places buried mission funds beneath the church or along the still-functioning acequias. Coordinates mark Mission Concepción in San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
