Mission Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria del Cañón Treasure Legend

Lost Treasure TX • Menard County County
Description
Menard County legend of Apache mission offerings and church silver buried at Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria del Cañón — closed in 1768 with San Lorenzo.
Historical Notes
Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria del Cañón was founded in 1762 in the canyon country near the juncture of the Nueces and Frio drainages as a companion to San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz. Both missions were abandoned in 1768 when the Apache mission program collapsed. Treasure tradition imagines hurried burial in limestone canyons — terrain that later fed the broader Lost San Saba mining obsession. Coordinates approximate the upper Nueces canyon country in Menard County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
