Mission Nuestra Señora de Dolores de los Ais Treasure Legend

Lost Treasure TX • San Augustine County County
Description
San Augustine legend of mission valuables concealed at Nuestra Señora de Dolores de los Ais — founded in 1717 and abandoned in 1773.
Historical Notes
Nuestra Señora de Dolores de los Ais was founded in January 1717 in San Augustine County. It operated until the 1773 East Texas withdrawal, outlasting the Querétaro missions that had moved to San Antonio. A state historical marker in San Augustine commemorates Dolores Mission. The presidio Nuestra Señora de los Dolores de los Tejas once protected the East Texas missions — secularization and abandonment fed generations of cache legends. Coordinates mark San Augustine, county seat and mission marker location.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
