Portis Mine - this mine is located .4 miles west of the Nash County line, close to Sandy Creek. It was worked between 1835-1935, total production was about $9,000,000. Van Alston Mine - is located near Sandy Creek. White House Mine - is located near Fishing Creek, the mine contained 613 acres. The gold is in residual soils and gravel beds.
