Milton Sharp Stagecoach Loot — Bodie Hills

Lost Treasure CA • Mono County County
Description
1880s "gentleman bandit" legend of Milton Sharp burying Wells Fargo strongbox loot along stage roads between Bodie, Lundy, and the California–Nevada line — an estimated 70% never recovered.
Historical Notes
Milton Sharp robbed more than twenty Sierra and Mono County stages in the late 1870s, often with partner W.C. "Bill" Jones, before Jones was killed on a Bodie–Carson City run in 1880. Sharp refused to reveal cache locations through prison escapes, recapture at Red Bluff in 1893, and eventual pardon in 1894. In 1910 the Hess brothers found small amounts near Bodie and Lundy; folklore holds most of Sharp's hoard remains along old stage routes around the Bodie ghost town.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
