Historical Notes
Limestone County sits on the Old San Antonio Road (Camino Real) between Waco and the Navasota River country. Fort Parker and Mexia were key landmarks for travelers and military expeditions in the 1830s–1840s. East Central Texas treasure tradition includes Spanish pack-train silver and Republic-era army payroll caches buried along the Camino Real when raids forced travelers to lighten loads. Mexia appears in regional compilations tied to this corridor. Coordinates approximate Mexia. Fort Parker Historic Site and surrounding lands are protected.
