Mertzon Outlaw Silver Cache — Irion County

Lost Treasure TX • Irion County County
Description
Mertzon northwest of San Angelo — Irion County seat with folklore of outlaw silver and payroll caches in the Spring Creek breaks (distinct from documented placer gold in the area).
Historical Notes
Mertzon sits in Irion County northwest of San Angelo. The database includes a documented gold-site entry for Mertzon placer occurrences; separate outlaw-lore traditions describe buried silver from trail robberies in the same breaks. Irion County was organized from Tom Green County in 1889. Cattle trails connecting San Angelo to the Trans-Pecos crossed the county's Spring Creek and Middle Concho drainages. Coordinates approximate Mertzon. Complements the existing Mertzon gold_site entry with treasure-legend context.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
