McKim Hills Lost Lead and Silver Mine — Jasper County

Lost Treasure TX • Jasper County County
Description
Jasper County legend of a lost lead and silver mine in the McKim Hills northeast of Jasper and southeast of Lufkin.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Jasper County compilation places a lost lead and silver mine in the McKim Hills. The low ridges of Jasper and Newton counties were prospected sporadically in the nineteenth century without commercial success. Lost-mine legends in the Piney Woods often blend Spanish entrada tales with Civil War specie stories. The McKim Hills lie between the Neches basin and the Sabine uplands. Coordinates approximate the McKim Hills area in northern Jasper County.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
