Mason Colbert Stand Cache — Natchez Trace

Lost Treasure MS • Jefferson / Claiborne County County
Description
Folklore of up to $250,000 in Samuel Mason gang loot hidden near the Colbert Tavern stretch of the Natchez Trace where the outlaws drank and planned robberies.
Historical Notes
Samuel Mason robbed Natchez Trace travelers after relocating from Cave-in-Rock. Governor Claiborne posted escalating rewards until Mason's death in 1803. Legends of America reports as much as $250,000 may lie near one of the gang's favorite stops — the Colbert Tavern and Inn corridor along the Trace. Thousands of dollars seized from Mason at Little Prairie in 1803 were only a fraction of his career thefts.
