The Rocker Box Presidio County compilation states a half ton of gold bars is thought to be cached near Marfa. Marfa is the Presidio County seat and a cultural crossroads between the Davis Mountains, Big Bend, and the Rio Grande. Related entry: "Lost Chino Mine — Presidio County" documents a separate mine legend near Marfa. Chinati Mountains silver mining at Shafter supplied smelters in El Paso for decades.
