Marble Falls Austin and Northwestern Railroad Payroll — Burnet County

Lost Treasure TX • Burnet County County
Description
Marble Falls legend of an Austin and Northwestern Railway payroll strongbox from 1889 — when the Granite Mountain branch made the Colorado River town a Hill Country rail hub.
Historical Notes
The Austin and Northwestern Railroad built an extension from Granite Mountain to Marble Falls in 1889, with branches to Burnet and Llano completed by 1892. Marble Falls grew to 400–600 residents by 1890 with cotton gins, a shoe factory, and the weekly Gazette. Rail-payroll treasure folklore mirrors Bertram, Burnet, and Llano variants on the Highland Lakes corridor. Related entry: "Longhorn Cavern Treasure — Burnet" documents separate Sam Bass cavern lore northwest of Marble Falls. Coordinates mark downtown Marble Falls at the intersection of US Highway 281 and Farm Road 1431 in southern Burnet County.
