Description
Private Alliance University chartered in Marble Falls in 1890; facilities purchased by public schools when an independent school district formed in 1908.
Historical Notes
Marble Falls had Methodist and Baptist churches and 400–600 residents by 1890 when Alliance University was chartered. The school operated only a few years before the public schools acquired its facilities. Marble Falls elected Orphelia "Birdie" Harwood the first woman mayor in the United States in 1917.
