Lost Whiskey Cache — Beatty Dunes

Lost Treasure NV • Nye County County
Description
1880s Nye County legend of a freighter's wagon load of 100-proof whiskey casks buried in sand about twenty-three miles south of Beatty during a killer desert sandstorm — wagon and cargo never found.
Historical Notes
The freighter hauled whiskey from northern California toward Arizona mining camps when a storm stripped away his animals and buried the wagon in shifting dunes. He walked out to Oasis Valley ranch country; when he returned the rig had vanished into the sand. Legends of America notes preserved century-old casks could be valuable to collectors, keeping the Beatty dunes story alive.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
