Description
Lake County legend of a cowboy finding a rock assayed at fifty percent gold while waiting at Sand Springs near the Lost Forest — he never returned for the results or the ledge.
Historical Notes
Early-1900s cattle wranglers met at Sand Springs near Oregon's Lost Forest in south-central Lake County. The first arrival found an interesting rock; assay in Lakeview showed at least half gold, but the cowboy vanished before revealing the source. Legends of America speculates the ledge may still lie near Sand Springs in the high desert pine country.
