Lost Bowie Mines West of Enchanted Rock — Gillespie County

Lost Treasure TX • Gillespie County County
Description
Gillespie County legend of the lost Bowie mines in the vicinity west of Enchanted Rock — a Hill Country variant of the Jim Bowie silver tradition north of Fredericksburg.
Historical Notes
Texas Hill Country tradition holds that early Texans believed the lost Bowie mines lay in the vicinity west of Enchanted Rock. Spanish explorers sought legendary gold and silver mines nearby, and small amounts of gold were mined near the granite dome though never profitably. Related entries document the presidio-era Lost San Saba Mine in Menard County and Los Almagres diggings in Llano County. This pin marks the separate west-of-Enchanted-Rock variant in Gillespie County guidebooks. Coordinates approximate the ranch country west of Enchanted Rock near the Gillespie–Llano county line north of Fredericksburg.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
