Los Pilones de Seguin Spanish Silver Mine Legend — Blanco County

Lost Treasure TX • Blanco County County
Description
Sugarloaf Hill legend of Spanish silver from Los Pilones de Seguin — the granite sugarloaf hills Bernardo de Miranda searched in his 1756 expedition report.
Historical Notes
Bernardo de Miranda y Flores, teniente-general in the Mexican army, mentions conical hills in his 1756 "Miranda Report," the first known expedition searching for a silver mine in the granite hills. The hills were known as Los Pilones (Sugarloafs) de Seguin long before Anglo settlers renamed the largest Sugarloaf. Spanish mine legends recur across the Hill Country wherever granite knobs rise above wagon roads. Miranda's expedition predates Anglo settlement of Blanco County by a century; related Fredericksburg and Llano entries document separate Pedernales and Llano River variants. Coordinates mark Sugarloaf Hill along US Highway 281 between Blanco and Johnson City in central Blanco County.
