Historical Notes
Longview was founded in 1870 as a Texas and Pacific Railroad town and became Gregg County's commercial center east of Tyler. Junction depots along the T&P main line were classic targets for Reconstruction-era train robberies and embezzled payrolls. East Texas metal-detecting clubs and KETK treasure features group Longview with Tyler and Rusk County in Piney Woods cache traditions. Coordinates mark downtown Longview in Gregg County east of Tyler.
