Longhorn Cavern State Park

Description
CCC-era state park in the Hill Country between Burnet and Marble Falls, opened in 1938 around a cavern used since prehistoric times.
Historical Notes
Texas acquired the cavern 1932–1937. Civilian Conservation Corps crews cleared and developed the cave 1934–1938; the park opened to the public in 1938. The main chamber hosted dances in the 1920s; Confederates mined bat guano for gunpowder during the Civil War. National Natural Landmark since 1971.
