Sun shading (lidar)

Adjust simulated sun direction on the lidar hillshade. Azimuth = compass bearing of the light (0° north, 90° east). Altitude = height above the horizon (low = long shadows).

Llano River — Upstream Town Reach

Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Mid-reach Llano River between Robinson Park and downtown Llano. Granite-bedrock river corridor where hobby panners work gravel bars and crevice sniping for fine placer gold after floods.
Historical Notes
The Llano River through the county seat flows over pink Town Mountain Granite and Precambrian bedrock of the Llano Uplift. Between Robinson Park (FM 152) and the downtown bridge, public road crossings and city parks provide legal bank access for fishing and recreational panning. Texas Escapes and APMEX document intermittent placer work on the Llano since the 1853 newspaper "Texas Gold Rush" frenzy. Gold is fine-grained; productive bars shift after each flood. Focus on inside bends, bedrock cracks, and black-sand streaks. Much riverbank remains private — use Robinson Park, Badu, Grenwelge, Ash Street, or obtain landowner permission. Check USGS gage 08151500 for flow conditions.
