Description
County-seat public schools during Llano's iron and granite boom; 1893 courthouse completed after the 1892 fire destroyed the 1885 structure.
Historical Notes
Llano remained a frontier trading post into the 1870s. The 1885 brick courthouse was destroyed by fire January 22, 1892; the present 1893 courthouse opened August 1 and is National Register-listed. By 1964 Llano had new hospital, post office, school buildings, community center, and rodeo grounds. Granite quarrying and finishing remained a million-dollar-a-year industry into the 1950s.
