Llano — Gold Panning & Treasure Fest

Gold Mining Site TX • Llano County County
Description
Town of Llano, county seat on the Llano River upstream from Kingsland. Hub for Hill Country prospecting culture and home of the annual Llano Gold & Treasure Fest with panning demos and gold-show events.
Historical Notes
Llano sits on the Llano River in the heart of the Llano Uplift — a mineral-rich Precambrian exposure famous for granite, gemstones, and small amounts of gold. The Llano Gold & Treasure Fest (Llano Earth Art Fest) draws visitors for gold-panning demonstrations, treasure-hunting vendors, and river recreation. The event reflects the county's long prospecting tradition dating to Spanish-era legends and the 1853 "Texas Gold Rush" newspaper frenzy. Upstream river gravels near town and county road crossings are occasionally worked by hobby panners when flows are low. Respect private property along the river.
