Littlefield XIT Ranch Payroll — Lamb County

Lost Treasure TX • Lamb County County
Description
Littlefield legend of an XIT Ranch payroll cache from the era when the Capitol Syndicate's vast Lamb County pastures dominated the northwestern South Plains.
Historical Notes
Major George W. Littlefield purchased XIT Ranch lands in Lamb and neighboring counties and founded Littlefield in 1913 on the Santa Fe line. The XIT had been the world's largest fenced ranch, and its dissolution left scattered payroll and baron-specie folklore across the Panhandle and South Plains. Related Midland-area entries document Permian Basin railroad variants. Lamb County's sandy loam soils later made it a major cotton and grain region northwest of Lubbock. Coordinates mark downtown Littlefield in Lamb County northwest of Lubbock.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
