Little Harbor Clergyman Gold New Castle

Lost Treasure NH • Rockingham County County
Description
New Castle legend of three chests of gold, a barrel of silver, and a box of coins submerged in Little Harbor below the Wentworth bridge — traced to an 1880s chart from a dying schoolteacher.
Historical Notes
In the 1880s Boston treasure hunters dredged Little Harbor near the Wentworth Hotel bridge guided by a century-old chart. Seacoast folklore describes a wealthy clergyman robbed at sea, his crew burying loot west of Newcastle Island at low water near Black Point. Repeated divining-rod searches through 1900 failed to recover the chests, keeping Little Harbor among New Hampshire's best-known hoard tales.
