Little Brazos Urrea Army Payroll Creek

Lost Treasure TX • Robertson County County
Description
Robertson County legend of General Vicente Filisola or Urrea column soldiers burying army payroll while crossing a Little Brazos tributary during the 1836 Texas campaign — a creek-crossing variant of Santa Anna gold lore.
Historical Notes
Mexican army columns under Filisola and Urrea retreated through East Central Texas after San Jacinto, crossing numerous creeks swollen by spring rains. TexAgs treasure threads describe landowners digging for Urrea army payroll along Little Brazos tributaries near Hearne. One farmer near Branchville reportedly found a lancer breastplate while searching — possible period artifact, but not proof of buried bullion. J. Frank Dobie noted in Coronado's Children that countless pay chests may have been lost in Texas streams during the retreat. Coordinates approximate the Little Brazos bottom west of Hearne in Robertson County.
