Description
The area along the Columbia River from the Grand Coulee Dam to Lincoln, in all low water river gravel bars and upper terrace gravels contain placer gold. It is usually very fine, but abundant. On the east side of the Columbia River in sections 12 and 13 T27N R35E, is the location of the China Bar Placer Mine. It consisted of 260 acres and was worked on terrace and river gravels. Opposite the mouth of the Sanpoil River, in the east 1/2 of section 8, is the Keller Ferry Placer mine, it is said to have abundant fine gold. I the south 1/2 of section 9, is the Winkelman Bar Placer and it too had fine gold reported in abundant quantities.
