Lewellen Pioneer Valuables Oregon Trail — Garden County

Lost Treasure NE • Garden County County
Description
Ash Hollow corridor legend of two pioneer families burying valuables south of Lewellen for an overnight camp — killed before they could reclaim the hoard on the Windlass Hill descent.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Garden County list describes two pioneer families who buried valuables for an overnight stay just south of Lewellen and were killed before recovering them. Ash Hollow and Windlass Hill — where emigrants lowered wagons 300 feet down a 25-degree slope — lie in the Garden County trail complex. Howard Stansbury's 1852 journal noted ropes required to let wagons down the perilous grade. Coordinates mark the Lewellen / Ash Hollow Oregon Trail segment south of Windlass Hill. State recreation lands — respect regulations; legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
