Leon River Limestone Cave Cache — Coryell County

Lost Treasure TX • Coryell County County
Description
Gatesville-area legend of outlaw loot cached in Leon River limestone breaks — when post–Civil War cattle country and Sam Bass–era highwaymen moved through central Coryell County.
Historical Notes
The Leon River drains the northern and eastern parts of Coryell County through Grand Prairie limestone country. Gatesville sits on the Leon at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and State Highway 36. Central Texas outlaw treasure lists place Coryell County within the radius of Sam Bass gang movement between Round Rock, Dallas, and the frontier. Local tradition describes cave caches in stream breaks and bluffs along the Leon. Related entry: "Crawford Outlaw Cache — Coryell County" (Waco import) marks the western McLennan–Coryell edge near Crawford. This pin localizes Leon River corridor lore nearer Gatesville. Private ranch land dominates — legend only.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
