Leon County Spanish Silver Lake

Lost Treasure TX • Leon County County
Description
Leon County legend of a Spanish mule train dumping silver into a small lake between the Trinity and Navasota rivers — east of the Bryan–College Station prairie.
Historical Notes
Leon County lies in the post-oak belt between the Trinity and Navasota river drainages, east of Madisonville and north of Normangee. The Rocker Box Leon County list describes a mule train of Spanish silver dumped into a small lake. Flooded oxbow lakes and stock tanks dot the region; shifting shorelines make wreck and cache locations difficult to pin down. The tale fits the broader East Texas Spanish pack-train folklore along the Old San Antonio Road. Coordinates approximate central Leon County between the two river basins. Private ranch land throughout.
