Historical Notes
Stonewall on the Pedernales River in southeastern Gillespie County was renamed from Millville in 1882. Lyndon Baines Johnson's ranch headquarters and the Texas White House stand at Stonewall, preserved within the LBJ National Historical Park east of Johnson City. Ranch-payroll and showplace specie folklore clusters along the Pedernales where Hill Country stockmen and later political families managed large landholdings. German settlers at Stonewall combined sheep raising with peach orchards and limekilns. Coordinates mark the LBJ Ranch area at Stonewall in Gillespie County east of Johnson City.
