1870s Puget Sound legend of lumberman Lars Hanson hiding more than $200,000 in gold coins on the banks of Judd Creek near Burton on Vashon Island.
Historical Notes
Vashon Island in central Puget Sound was home to successful timber operators in the 1870s. Legends of America reports Hanson cached gold coins along Judd Creek near the Burton community and never disclosed the spot. The tale is one of King County's best-known island cache stories distinct from mainland Comstock-era loot legends.
