Historical Notes
Laredo was founded in 1755 and grew into the principal Rio Grande border trade city. Railroads including the International and Great Northern connected Laredo to San Antonio and the Gulf, concentrating weekly payrolls in cash. Rail-junction treasure folklore mirrors other Texas border towns. The San Agustín Cathedral and historic plaza district preserve Laredo's Spanish and Mexican commercial heritage. Coordinates mark downtown Laredo at the historic rail corridor in Webb County.
