Lake Whitney Outlaw Cache — Hill County

Lost Treasure TX • Hill County County
Description
Hill County lore along the Brazos and Lake Whitney — buried outlaw loot from the 19th-century cattle and railroad corridor northwest of Waco, partly submerged by Whitney Dam (1951).
Historical Notes
Lake Whitney flooded a long stretch of the Brazos River valley in Hill County, covering farms, ferries, and crossings that had been used since the Republic era. Regional treasure tales describe caches hidden in bluff caves and creek bottoms now under or along the reservoir. The town of Whitney and the Houston & Texas Central Railroad made Hill County a shipping point for cattle and cotton. Outlaw payroll legends along this rail-and-river corridor mirror those at Waco and Kimball's Bend. Army Corps of Engineers and lake park rules prohibit unauthorized digging. Coordinates approximate Lake Whitney dam / Brazos canyon northwest of Waco.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
