Lake Corpus Christi legend of a buried cache of gold and silver at or near the reservoir east of Alice — a winter-Texan recreation destination for the Hub City of South Texas.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box Nueces County compilation states that a cache of gold and silver is said to be buried at or near Lake Corpus Christi. Alice promotes proximity to Lake Corpus Christi, Padre Island, and the Gulf as a draw for winter Texans and anglers. The reservoir lies on the Nueces River in the Rio Grande Plain between Alice and Corpus Christi. Lake-bank and river-crossing treasure tales are common in South Texas guidebooks along the Nueces drainage. Coordinates mark Lake Corpus Christi near Mathis in northern Nueces County, east of Alice.
