Lafitte Napoleon Sea Chests — Louisiana Gulf Coast

Lost Treasure LA • Plaquemines Parish County
Description
Folklore that Jean Lafitte buried up to twenty sea chests of treasure — some tales say loot once belonging to Emperor Napoleon — along the Louisiana and Texas Gulf coast.
Historical Notes
American Cowboy recounts legend that Lafitte buried twenty sea chests of treasure formerly attributed to Napoleon at several sites along the Louisiana and Texas coasts. The 1960 Caire & Thatcher Buried Treasure Map of Louisiana likewise attributes millions in unrecovered Lafitte gold to the brothers' smuggling era. Occasional coastal coin finds fuel continuing searches in Plaquemines and coastal parishes.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
