Digital Alabama reports tradition that Lafitte buried about $80,000 in gold on the beach near the village — distinct from the Copeland barrel legend but in the same coastal maze of bayous and barrier islands. Hurricanes and shoreline erosion may have shifted any hypothetical cache, but the Lafitte name remains synonymous with Mobile County treasure tales.
