La Porte Lafitte Treasure

Lost Treasure TX • Harris County County
Description
La Porte legend that Jean Lafitte buried treasure near the San Jacinto Battleground and upper Galveston Bay — a smuggling waypoint between Campeche on Galveston Island and inland bayous.
Historical Notes
La Porte developed where Buffalo Bayou and the San Jacinto River meet Galveston Bay. Lafitte's crews used these waters to move contraband between his Galveston Island colony (1817–1821) and mainland buyers. The Rocker Box Harris County list cites guidebook tradition of Lafitte treasure near La Porte. The same corridor later witnessed the Battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836) and growth of the Houston Ship Channel. No authenticated Lafitte hoard has been recovered in Harris County. Coordinates mark downtown La Porte near the battleground and bayfront.
