Historic African American high school in East Austin; founded as Austin Colored School, renamed for Professor L.C. Anderson.
Historical Notes
Anderson High served Black students under segregation from the 1890s; the 1913 building at 900 Thompson Street was the educational heart of East Austin. School moved in 1953; original building listed on National Register. Alumni include Barbara Jordan and numerous civil-rights leaders.
