Kingston Gold District — Sierra County

Gold Mining Site NM • Sierra County County
Description
The Kingston lode district on the west slope of the Black Range — Sierra County's 1882 gold-silver boom town on the road to Hillsboro.
Historical Notes
Kingston formed after a 1882 strike that drew thousands of miners to the west side of the Black Range. The Percha Bank and Victorian business district served mines including the Iron King before fires and declining ore ended the boom. Kingston connects geologically to the Hillsboro and Lake Valley silver-gold country of Sierra County. NM Bureau of Geology groups southern NM lode camps with intermittent placer work in nearby arroyos. Coordinates mark Kingston in Sierra County on NM 152 west of Hillsboro.
