Kimball's Bend Treasure — Brazos River

Lost Treasure TX • Bosque County County
Description
Kimball's Bend on the Brazos north of Waco — where city founder Jacob de Cordova built "Wanderer's Retreat" and local lore places Spanish mule-train gold and Civil War–era caches in the river bend bluffs.
Historical Notes
Jacob de Cordova laid out the town of Waco in 1848 but lived at Kimball's Bend, where the Brazos doubles back on itself. He planned a canal across the bend to harness river power for textile mills — a dream unfinished at his death in 1868. Mike Cox's "Sword in the Tree" folklore and broader Brazos treasure tales tie Spanish coin caches to historic low-water crossings on the old Dallas–San Antonio trace. Kimball's Bend was a landmark on that route north of Waco. De Cordova was buried first near the Brazos in Bosque County before removal to the Texas State Cemetery. Coordinates approximate Kimball's Bend / Wanderer's Retreat historic area.
