Katy Mexican Silver Cache

Lost Treasure TX • Waller County County
Description
West Houston legend of a cache of Mexican silver buried near Katy — guidebook lore in the Buffalo Bayou prairie west of downtown.
Historical Notes
Katy straddles Harris, Waller, and Fort Bend counties on the coastal prairie west of Houston. Mexican silver coinage circulated widely in Texas before and after independence; "Mexican silver" caches are a recurring theme in Gulf Coast folklore. The Rocker Box Waller County list cites a Mexican silver hoard near Katy. Some variants tie the silver to trade caravans on the San Antonio road; others to Lafitte associates moving loot inland. Rapid suburban growth has covered former rice fields and cattle prairie. Coordinates mark Katy in the Waller County portion west of Houston.
