Kanaka Jack's Mine — Irish Creek

Lost Treasure CA • El Dorado County County
Description
El Dorado County lost-mine legend of Hawaiian miner "Kanaka Jack" who brought large amounts of gold from a secret Irish Creek workings near Kanaka Town but died in 1912 without revealing the entrance.
Historical Notes
Kanaka (Hawaiian) settlers farmed and mined in El Dorado County before the Gold Rush and later sold produce to Coloma diggings. Kanaka Jack worked a productive mine along Irish Creek near the former Kanaka Town settlement, yet never disclosed its exact location despite years of visible output. Legends of America and lost-mine compilations treat the site as one of the Mother Lode's enduring Hawaiian-miner treasure mysteries.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
