Jumano Mission (1632) Treasure Legend — San Angelo

Lost Treasure TX • Tom Green County County
Description
San Angelo folklore linked to the 1632 Jumano mission — the first mission in Texas, abandoned after six months on the Concho–Colorado confluence.
Historical Notes
Franciscans from New Mexico established a mission near the Concho and Colorado rivers in 1632 after a 1629 Jumano petition for missionaries. It operated only six months before remoteness from the New Mexico supply base forced abandonment. A commemorative monument along the Concho River in San Angelo marks the tradition. Treasure hunters occasionally tie the site to Spanish trade silver and mission goods hurriedly concealed when the friars withdrew. Coordinates mark the Concho River commemorative area in San Angelo.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
