John Woods Woodsville Sawmill Fortune

Lost Treasure NH • Grafton County County
Description
Grafton County legend of sawmill owner John L. Woods burying his milling fortune near his Woodsville sawmill in 1829 — the town that bears his name on the Connecticut River.
Historical Notes
John L. Woods operated a profitable sawmill at Woodsville where the Ammonoosuc meets the Connecticut River. Compiled guides say he concealed his earnings near the mill; the hamlet was named for the Woods family. No documented recovery appears in Grafton County lists despite searches around Court Square and the river confluence.
