John King Fisher Outlaw Strongbox — Eagle Pass

Lost Treasure TX • Maverick County County
Description
Eagle Pass legend of an outlaw strongbox from the Reconstruction era — when John King Fisher and his followers dominated the town, courts, and smuggling trade opposite Piedras Negras.
Historical Notes
During Reconstruction, saloons, gambling houses, and smuggling proliferated in and around Eagle Pass. The infamous John King Fisher and his followers dominated the town, the county, and the courts; Maverick County judge William Stone moved his family to San Miguel for safety. Fisher served as county deputy sheriff and later became a noted South Texas cattle baron before his 1884 death in San Antonio. Outlaw-dominance folklore often places strongboxes of rustled-cattle proceeds, smuggling profits, and gambling specie along the Rio Grande corridor. Coordinates mark downtown Eagle Pass, county seat of Maverick County on the Rio Grande opposite Piedras Negras.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
