Jim Bowie Silver West of Menard

Lost Treasure TX • Menard County County
Description
Menard County legend that Jim Bowie hid twenty tons of Mexican silver west of Menard — a variant of the Lost San Saba / Bowie mine tradition in the San Angelo–Menard corridor.
Historical Notes
The Rocker Box cites folklore that Jim Bowie concealed twenty tons of Mexican silver west of Menard. This overlaps the broader Lost San Saba Mine legend documented at Presidio San Sabá, which Jim and Rezin Bowie searched in the 1830s. Historian Herbert Bolton placed the actual Los Almagres diggings in Llano County, but Menard County remains one of Texas's most active treasure-hunting landscapes. San Angelo residents commonly day-trip to Menard for mine lore. Coordinates approximate the limestone hills west of Menard. Do not trespass on private land or protected presidio sites.
