Jesse James Safe — Brazos River Bottom

Lost Treasure TX • McLennan County County
Description
Alternate Waco dig lore placing Jesse James's sunken train-robbery safe in a well on the Brazos River bottom along Old Dallas Highway south of I-35 — sand and water reportedly refilled faster than crews could dig.
Historical Notes
TreasureNet locals describe a separate or earlier dig along Old Dallas Highway just south of I-35, behind a city impound yard, where searchers believed a safe was dropped in a well on the sandy Brazos floodplain. Participants said something large and metal remained below the water table but that Brazos bottom sand and groundwater made excavation impractical. This may relate to the same 1992 Earle Avenue legend or an earlier 1970s–1980s hunt remembered on Waco television. Coordinates approximate the Old Dallas Highway / Brazos bottom corridor south of downtown Waco. Floodplain and city property — no unauthorized digging.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
