Jesse James Piney Creek Hideout — Izard County

Lost Treasure AR • Izard County County
Description
Folklore that Jesse James and the James–Younger circle used Piney Creek near Melbourne in Izard County as an Ozark hideout — with strongbox loot cached in caves and river bends.
Historical Notes
Arkansas Jesse James traditions place the outlaw band in remote Izard County hollows during the 1870s, especially along Piney Creek where steep terrain offered cover from Missouri posses. Stories describe stolen bank and train proceeds hidden in limestone caves and oak-shaded bends until the gang could move gold east. Historians debate James's Arkansas presence, but Izard County remains one of the state's most repeated James treasure locales in Ozark oral history.
