Historical Notes
Norman Richardson's Where the Gold is—Maybe notes silver found buried on Jefferson Island along the Louisiana Gulf, among other reported discoveries near Lake Charles (1929 doubloons), Opelousas, and Abbeville. Jefferson Island is a famous Avery Island–area salt dome in Iberia Parish with historic mining and dramatic 1980 Lake Peigneur drilling disaster. Treasure tales are part of broader south Louisiana pirate and Civil War cache folklore.
