Jacksonville Old Miner Gold Dust Cache

Lost Treasure OR • Jackson County County
Description
Jacksonville legend of an old miner burying about $8,000 in gold dust in the 1860s — he returned years later to dig up J.N.T. Miller's field but never found his cache.
Historical Notes
Jacksonville was southern Oregon's premier Gold Rush town with rich placer and hydraulic operations. Legends of America tells of a miner who hid dust near town, left for years, and tore up a large field searching without success. The tale is a personal-cache variant distinct from the larger Josephine County lost-mine legends.
Status / Verification legend — Legendary or approximate
