Jack Breen Hayden Lake Lost Claim

Lost Treasure ID • Kootenai County County
Description
1889 Coeur d'Alene legend of prospector Jack Breen dying in a jail fire before partners could learn the exact location of his rich Hayden Lake gold find — the claim secret perished with him.
Historical Notes
Breen discovered gold near Hayden Lake in November 1889 but withheld precise coordinates from grubstake partners Palmeter and Osier. Saloon drinking led marshals to jail him "for his own protection," yet the jail burned and Breen died of smoke inhalation before revealing the site. The story is Idaho's classic "location died with the prospector" lost-mine tale in the Coeur d'Alene district.
